About

What Is Basement Crack Repair?

Water entering through a basement crack is the most visible form of foundation water intrusion, and also among the most treatable. APS Foundation seals basement cracks using the injection method appropriate for the specific crack, epoxy for dry structural cracks, polyurethane foam for actively seeping or leaking cracks. Epoxy injection bonds the crack surfaces back together, restoring structural continuity and preventing future water entry. It cures to a strength exceeding the original concrete. Epoxy requires the crack to be dry enough for the injection to cure, active water seepage must first be stopped with a temporary plug or the crack must be dried before epoxy application. Polyurethane foam injection is the correct choice for cracks that are actively leaking. The foam reacts with moisture and expands to fill and seal the crack, even under hydrostatic pressure. The result is a flexible seal that accommodates minor seasonal movement without re-cracking. All basement crack injections begin with a root cause assessment. Cracks caused by active structural movement cannot be permanently sealed until the movement is stabilized. APS identifies whether crack sealing is the complete solution or one component of a broader repair.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between epoxy and polyurethane for basement crack sealing?

Epoxy bonds and restores structural strength, appropriate for dry, stable cracks. Polyurethane foam expands with moisture contact and provides a flexible waterproof seal, appropriate for actively leaking cracks.

Will the crack come back?

Properly injected cracks do not reopen if the root cause is addressed. Cracks caused by ongoing soil movement or hydrostatic pressure without drainage correction are likely to reopen or migrate.
