Root causes

What causes concrete to settle in Alabama

Concrete does not fail on its own. It settles when the soil beneath it moves. Alabama's expansive clay swells with water and shrinks in drought, and each cycle leaves voids under slabs that once had full support.

Water is the accelerant. Poor drainage, downspouts discharging at the slab edge, and eroded soil wash the fines out from under driveways, sidewalks, and pool decks, opening gaps the slab eventually drops into.

APS lifts and levels settled slabs with high-density polyurethane foam injected through dime-sized holes. The foam fills the void, raises the slab back to grade, and cures in minutes, addressing the empty space beneath, not just the surface.

Solutions

APS concrete repair solutions

We lift and stabilize settled concrete by treating the void underneath, at a fraction of the cost of tear-out and replacement.

Concrete Leveling

Polyurethane foam injection lifts settled slabs back to grade. Walk-on ready in about 30 minutes, at a fraction of replacement cost.

Driveway Repair

Settled driveway slabs lifted, trip hazards removed, and water redirected away from the foundation.

Sidewalk Repair

Settled sidewalk sections lifted to clear trip hazards. We work with homeowners who have received city or HOA notices.

Pool Deck Repair

Settled pool deck slabs lifted and stabilized without draining the pool.

Cracked Concrete Repair

Surface and structural cracks assessed and repaired by routing and sealing, injection, or section replacement.

Polyurethane Foam Injection

High-density foam fills the void beneath the slab. It is inert, non-biodegradable, and rated to last for decades.

We fix the void, not just the surface: patching a crack or grinding a lip without filling the empty soil beneath the slab leaves the real problem in place. A free assessment finds the void first.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does concrete settle in Alabama?

Alabama's clay-rich soils shrink during dry summers and expand during wet winters. This seasonal movement compresses and shifts the soil beneath slabs, causing sections to settle. Downspouts or gutters that discharge near slabs wash fine soil away from slab edges, accelerating settlement at the perimeter.

Is foam lifting better than replacement?

For most settled slabs, yes. Foam lifting costs 50 to 80 percent less than replacement, is complete in hours rather than days, eliminates the concrete waste of demolition, requires no cure time, and addresses the void beneath the slab rather than placing new concrete on the same failed soil.

How long does concrete repair take?

Most residential concrete leveling projects are completed in a few hours. The area is walk-on ready within 30 minutes of injection.
